Janhvi Kapoor is a 22-year-old Indian actress who appears in Hindi films. Born in Juhu, a suburb of Mumbai, she is the daughter of Bollywood actors Sridevi and producer Boney Kapoor. She made her acting debut in 2018 in the Hindi film Dhadak (2018), which was a commercial success. The film was produced by Karan Johar, the producer of several hit films such as Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016), Karan Arjun (1995), Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995) and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998). Kapoor, who began her acting career at age four, is also a co-owner of the fashion brand Monisha Jaising. In June 2018, Kapoor was honoured with the Young India National Award for Social Concern. She is the youngest-ever recipient of the honor. Kapoor also received the Newcomer Award at the IIFA Awards 2018.

Janhvi Kapoor made her debut as a child artiste in the film Jhund in 2010. She also featured in the film Khoobsurat. However, her debut film Dhadak received critical acclaim and became one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of 2018. It earned a total of Rs. 127 crore at the domestic box office. Her performance in the movie also received critical praise. While the film featured Shahid Kapoor's brother Ishaan Khatter, it featured the young Bollywood actor for the first time. Janhvi made her acting debut with the movie Dhadak and it also marked Ishaan's first film. Apart from the movie Dhadak, she also acted in the Netflix film Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl and the crime thriller film Karwaan.

Kapoor's debut film was the Hindi-language drama film Dhadak, in which she played the role of a young Maharashtrian girl called Madhavi, who falls in love with the much older Parthavi played by Shahid Kapoor. The film was produced by Dharma Productions and released on 20 July 2018, in which it earned over ₹170 crore. The film garnered positive reviews, with critics praising Kapoor's performance and the film as a whole. Kapoor's second release was the Netflix thriller film, the ghost thriller flick, based on real-life events Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, in which she played the role of Gunjan Saxena, a member of India's 1st Expeditionary Combat Team, who lost her life during the Kargil war in 1999. The film, released on 8 May 2018, earned over ₹5.
Awards and nominations
Janhvi Kapoor's performance in Dhadak brought her the much-coveted 'best debut actor' award at the Filmfare Awards (South) 2018. On the work front, Kapoor is currently awaiting the release of Takht, which will be released on November 15, 2019.

Star Screen Awards
Sridevi won her first of many awards at the Star Screen Awards that year for her performance in the drama Chandni. Janhvi also took home a Best Actress trophy for her role in the film at the awards ceremony, held in 1997. This was followed by a Best Female Debut win at the Filmfare Awards in 1998.
